Did you try launching the auto update from other Office apps as I suggested? (Or though Outlook in that other profile). The reason why you got this message is most likely due to the fact that you had at some point, another version of Outlook 2016 that was more recent than the current one and it converted the identity to a newer format.
When you reverted to the older version, Outlook was no longer able to open the identity. You didn't get any message in the other user account because you probably never launched the newer version of Outlook in that account.
